Working at CQUniversity
The Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) is seeking a distinguished Principal Research Fellow to lead progressive research in applied coastal marine ecology supporting the health and sustainability of tropical coastal ecosystems and fisheries. Situated within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, CMERC is home to the world’s largest seagrass nursery and with research programs in coastal habitat restoration, sustainable marine resources and assessing ecosystem health.
Based at CMERC’s world-class waterfront facility in Gladstone, you will lead and contribute to impactful applied research focused on fish and crustacean habitat use, mud crab population dynamics and fisheries management, and/or seascape-scale ecosystem connectivity, helping deliver science with real-world impact for biodiversity, fisheries, and regional communities. You will secure and manage external funding, publish influential research, and mentor emerging scientists. In this role, you’ll join a dynamic and friendly team of marine scientists and restoration experts, delivering innovative, evidence-based approaches to coastal and marine sustainability. Collaborating with industry, government, and academic partners, you will help drive practical outcomes that support biodiversity, fisheries health, endangered species and climate resilience.
This role presents a unique opportunity to develop innovative restoration strategies, advance ecosystem services, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of critical coastal and marine environments. If you are an accomplished researcher with a strong track record and a passion for coastal and marine conservation, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact in one of the world’s most significant marine regions.
