Your role in our vision

As part of our dedicated team at DBE, you will:

Shape Curriculum and Pedagogy: Collaborate with faculty and community members to develop and implement curricula that reflect Aboriginal perspectives and ways of knowing and being. Your insights will help challenge and enrich our pedagogical practices.

Build strong relationships with local Aboriginal communities, ensuring their voices and knowledge are integrated into our teaching and research. Your work will help bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives.

Lead with Impact: Drive initiatives that promote ‘Just Sustainability,’ aligning your work with our commitment to social, ethical, and environmental responsibility.


Who We’re Looking For

Selection criteria

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

In alignment with the University’s dedication to enhancing Indigenous employment within its workforce, the position is an identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander position. Pursuant to Section 50 (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), only applications from suitably qualified Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander candidates will be considered.

1. Qualifications and Professional Experience: Currently enrolled in a PhD, completed a doctoral qualification, or the equivalent professional practice experience and leadership in DBE disciplines or closely related areas. Teaching, Research, and Professional Practice Experience in teaching, research, and/or professional practice within or in collaboration with the discipline areas of the School of Design & Built Environment.

2. Leadership in Curriculum Development: Leadership in developing curricula that integrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (two-way knowledge) approaches to learning and teaching activities. This includes experience in course/unit coordination and leading unit and curriculum redevelopment.

3. Expertise in ‘Just Sustainability’: Established record of accomplishment in research, teaching, and/or professional practice focused on ‘just sustainability’. This includes, but is not limited to, one or more of the following areas:

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community co-design and participatory design.

• Creative Practice (e.g., Fashion Design, Animation & Gaming, Graphic Design, Digital Design & Fabrication, Photography, Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design).

• Built Environment (e.g., Construction Management, Planning, Geography).

Social, Ethical, and Environmental Responsibility: Commitment to social, ethical, and environmental responsibility, including active engagement with external networks, community collaboration, and demonstrable impact.

Adaptability and Accountability: Ability to adapt to various situations with a strong sense of accountability.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: High-level communication and interpersonal skills with the capability to foster a collegial and supportive work environment. Proven ability to interact with students, staff, and the wider community with cultural sensitivity.

Policy and Procedure Adherence: Commitment to applying relevant policies, procedures, and legislation in performing the duties of this position.
