This is a full-time, continuing position available from September 2023. In an effort to address the under-representation of women in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering at Curtin, we are strongly encouraging women to apply.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Lecturer to play a significant role at a vibrant institution and be part of a dynamic team with a passion for teaching, research, and community engagement, contributing to the overall output of excellence in Teaching and Research in the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering.

The successful candidate will be a passionate educator who will supervise honours project students as well as higher degree research students.

Candidates will have the ability to develop and deliver curriculum in the rapidly growing undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees and undertake research in Mechanical Engineering. Analytical skills and experience in modelling and simulation of mechanical systems will be highly regarded. The position will involve engaging with students, collaborators, industry partners and developing funding proposals.

The position is located on the Bentley Campus of Curtin University but may involve collaborations with Curtin campuses in Malaysia and Dubai or education partners in Sri Lanka.

Candidates must be Permanent Residents or Citizens of Australia to be considered for this role.

Selection criteria

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • Evidence of a capability or potential to deliver high-quality teaching in fields of dynamics, vibration and noise (e.g. machine dynamics, mechanical vibration, noise control)
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Excellent analytical skills and experience in development of models and simulations of mechanical systems
  • Track record of research collaboration in mechanical engineering
  • Track record of engagement with industry, community or government in relation to research and/or teaching
  • Evidence of engagement at the professional or disciplinary level
