About The School

The School of Accounting, Economics and Finance is known for its excellence in teaching and the practical, applied nature of its courses and research. The School consists of four disciplines namely, Accounting, Economics, Finance and Property, with approximately sixty-five staff. The School prides itself on its industry relevant education programs, impactful research and internationally recognised expertise in Accounting, Economics, Finance and Property.

The School has an ambitious world-standard research agenda in Finance and, through this, aims to provide a learning environment that combines high-quality and innovative teaching practices. The School maintains a number of database subscriptions to support its teaching and research activities across the disciplines.

About this role

The School of Accounting, Economics and Finance is seeking to enhance its existing research and leadership capacity within our Finance discipline through the appointment of a Professor, Research Academic, on a full time, continuing basis.

This position primarily focuses on research activities within the field of Finance, aiming to make significant, original, and innovative contributions that are recognised both nationally and internationally. The individual in this role is expected to demonstrate exceptional performance and leadership, supported by a strong track record of academic leadership that aligns with Curtin University’s strategic goals. Furthermore, they should consistently contribute at a high level to research and maintain an international reputation as an outstanding scholar in Finance.


Responsibilities will include:

• Provide research leadership in the Finance discipline.

• Provide mentoring to academic staff and undertake principal supervision of honours, research masters, and research doctoral students.

• Undertake internationally competitive research in the Finance discipline.

• Disseminate research findings through publications in high quality peer-reviewed international journals and through seminars, workshops, and conferences.

• Significantly contribute to external activities relevant to the Finance discipline/profession and community engagement.

• Significantly contribute to and provide leadership within the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance to meet strategic objectives.

• Foster a culture of collegiality and research excellence that is consistent with Curtin University’s Values.

• Participate in the delivery of research led educational programs as required by the Head of School.

Selection criteria
To be our ideal candidate, you should possess:

1. A doctoral qualification in Finance or equivalent.

2. An established record of highly productive research outputs in Finance with regular publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed academic journals, consistent with an international reputation in the field of Finance.

3. Demonstrated leadership and mentoring of academic staff in relation to their professional development including early career researchers.

4. Significant experience and record of providing supervision to higher degree research (HDR) students.

5. Demonstrated academic leadership experience in the Finance discipline/profession and in community engagement.

6. A record of obtaining research funding, including nationally and internationally competitive research grants and/or fellowships.

7. Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster and promote the development of a collegial, collaborative, and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.

8. Demonstrated achievement in the discipline of Finance through the scholarly development and delivery of high-quality educational courses.

9. Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.


Desirable

Leadership within relevant learned academies or professional bodies.
