About this role

With a legacy dating back to 1979, Murdoch University's School of Veterinary Medicine is a global leader in veterinary education, research, and clinical practice. Our programs are internationally accredited, and our unique five year curriculum integrates science and practice, providing students with a comprehensive education. We boast state of the art facilities on our Perth campus and are renowned for our expertise in Veterinary Anaesthesia. The role of a Senior Lecturer demands a robust research orientation, demonstrated by a track record of high quality research publications. Additionally, a strong commitment and ability to secure external research funding are essential. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing the educational objectives of the Discipline through the creation and delivery of lecturers, tutorials, program coordination, and the guidance of honors and post graduate students. Academic staff at this level also actively engage in diverse administrative and service responsibilities within the College and across the University, alongside contributing to professional activities within their respective discipline.

A Lecturer within the Clinical or Professional Practice Scholar track is expected to develop scholarly teaching and professional activities relevant to the discipline. This position contributes to the teaching effort of the discipline through the preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, other types of teaching activities, as well as participating within the clinical activity of the hospital. The person in this position is also expected to perform a range of administrative and service functions within the College and across the University.

Selection criteria

Senior Lecturer

  • A degree in Veterinary Science registrable with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia
  • A PhD in an area relevant to the appointment
  • Specialist qualification in Veterinary Anaesthesia and analgesia including Fellow of Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Anaesthetists, Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, or Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Demonstrated success in generating high-quality independent research outputs with national recognition and a developing international profile.

Lecturer

  • A veterinary degree registrable with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia and demonstrated teaching experience at a tertiary level in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia
  • Postgraduate qualifications in teaching or the clinical discipline of veterinary anaesthesia
  • Demonstrate experience of innovative teaching of veterinary students in veterinary anaesthesia
  • Demonstrated knowledge if contemporary approached to curriculum and pedagogy
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake clinical work at a high level.
