About this role

We are seeking an accomplished leader with an outstanding track record of academic portfolio management to join our Faculty Leadership Team as our Deputy Dean.

The Deputy Dean leads a large portfolio encompassing teaching and learning, research, engagement and international within the Faculty of Business and Law at QUT’s Gardens Point campus. The position is a key member of the Faculty Leadership Team and works collaboratively with the Executive Dean, Associate Deans (Learning & Teaching; Research), Heads of School, and the Faculty Operations Manager to deliver the Faculty’s strategic and operational objectives.

In this role you would be responsible for the day-to-day management of the finances and resources for Faculty support of engagement, student services, international, learning and teaching, and research. You would be responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion. The position required oversight on a number of direct reports including the Senior Engagement Coordinator; Student Support Manager; Director, Continuing Professional Education; Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching; and Associate Dean, Research.

Selection criteria

What you need to succeed

  1. A doctoral qualification or equivalent in a relevant area with proven leadership and achievement at a senior level.
  2.  Proven academic leadership and senior management experience, with demonstrated ability to implement learning and teaching initiatives and ensure high- quality program delivery.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage a multidisciplinary portfolio of research activity, and lead initiatives focused on enabling research performance and impact.
  4. Strong operational management skills, business acumen and a proven record of budget, resource and risk management at a senior level.
  5. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate, consult, negotiate and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the University.
  6. Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to think creatively and implement innovation, incorporating principles of diversity and inclusivity.
  7. Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external parties to deliver a program of student engagement activity, and identify strategic and business development opportunities partnering with relevant industries, professions or institutions at the local and international levels.
