About – Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) has been the leading Australian engineering and IT education and research provider for over 150 years. We are a multidisciplinary School organised into three key areas; Computing and Information Systems (CIS), Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE) and Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering (EMI). FEIT continues to attract top staff and students with a global reputation and is committed to knowledge for society's betterment.

About the Role

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is seeking to appoint a motivated and ambitious early-career academic to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Communication Theory for Wireless Networks.

Today’s wireless communication systems operate in highly congested and contested environments, giving rise to unprecedented challenges. Among these challenges, bandwidth scarcity is one of the most prominent because of the high-bandwidth demanding modern commercial applications (e.g., 5G and beyond). This project investigates sensing, localisation, resource allocation and communication strategies to improve the performance of modern wireless radio networks.

You will conduct independent research, leading to the preparation and publication of research outcomes in conferences and journals. You will be expected to be an active member of the Department, collaborating with other researchers. You may undertake small amounts of teaching and research supervision directly related to your area of research, as required.

This is an exciting opportunity to grow your research profile further and be supported to achieve your goals.

Responsibilities include:

• Independently plan and carry out research on the nominated research project, developing effective timelines and milestones based on the programme's goals.

• Perform data and microstructure analysis, be responsible for qualitative and statistical research data analysis, and communicate this information to the Chief Investigators and collaborators.

• Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and build positive working relationships, including staff and other researchers and external partners, in the pursuit of securing funding sources.

Selection criteria

About You

You are a passionate researcher committed to conducting innovative research, as demonstrated through your track record of publications in leave journals and conferences. Your excellent communication and relationship management skills will support you in building effective working relationships with colleagues, collaborators and external stakeholders.

You will also have:

• A PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or closely related discipline.

• Excellent ability in analysing data, problem-solving and maintaining accurate research records.

• Demonstrated capacity to communicate research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

For full details of responsibilities and selection criteria, including criteria for a Level B appointment, please refer to the attached position description.
